To obtain a full functioning coffee machine, certain internal components are necesarry. Let's have a look at these components.
Pump
The pump is a critical part for the coffee machine, since it will provide high pressure and ensure an efficient waterflow.
Pressure
Our pump will at least reach a pressure of 10 bar.
Material
Stainless steel or copper are good materials for the pump.
Flow rate
To ensure a full cup of espresso (30 ml), or cup of lungo(60 ml) within 30 seconds,
a flow rate of 120 ml/min is needed.
Electric motor
A small electric motor is added, to drive the pump.
After research and evaluation the Ulka EX5 Vibratory Pump is a perect fit. Since, this pump can produce a pressure up to 15 bar, contains a copper connection and has a max flow rate of 650 ml/min.
Heating elements
Heating elements, are essential for the process of coffee making. Let's look at some requierements:
The heat-exchanger heats up the water to 90 ℃ .
Consists of materials that are corrosion resistant and have a good thermal conductivity. Excellent materials are stainless steel or copper.
Ensure decent power to heat up the water quickly.
Tubing
In the process of making a coffee, water is transported from the watertank to the coffee mug . During this transportation water is pressurized, heated and filtered. The tubing in the machine is crucial and needs to endure multiple phases of the water. Since high pressurized and heated water will be transported, materials for the tubing need to be thermal stable and corrosion resistant. For the machine stainless steel tubing is used, this material performs excellent under the predescribed circumstances.
Water flow
Below you can see a schematic image of the waterflow within the coffee machine.
